In the Fall of 2008, we were caught by surprise when the Chambers County Commissioners voted to dissolve our town's
charter. Many in our community were unaware there was a charter to begin with, and we were not given proper notice
about the hearing that took place. We attempted on several occasions to plead to the Chambers County Commission
to keep our town charter. Our request was never taken into consideration. Because of their deviousness, we believe
there is something they have in the works of which they do not want us to know. Even one of the Commissioners admitted
this blasphemy began in the first place over the potential for increased tax revenue!
We want to protect our rights as citizens of this community, and we want to make sure that our historic, rural town remains
exactly the way it is. With the Chambers County Commission in control, who knows what our fate will be??? We must
stand up for our rights in this matter! In response to the Commission's dissolution of our town, the "Free
Fredonia Community" was established by a large group of the towns citizens committed to saving their hometown
here in Fredonia, Alabama.
